ParentSkills2Go is a community interest company (CIC) limited by guarantee, incorporated in 2010 and restructured in 2017 and managed by Margaret Taribo, the Executive Director, who has worked tirelessly with stakeholders, fellow directors and parents and families to build a sustainable organisation.
Little People’s World is the intergenerational volunteering arm of the organisation and provides a platform for parents and young people to collaborate and work together in the planning and implementation of the holiday activities and trips for families.
ParentSkills2Go mission is to empower parents and children and sets out to challenge and disrupt some of the structural inequalities in education and social welfare faced by Black and Minoritised communities within the London borough of Southwark.
The organisation aims to provide programmes that engage young people and their families in particular, but not exclusively, children and young people from Black and Minoritised communities who face multiple barriers accessing mainstream services.
We have an exciting new opportunity for an Advisory Board member to join an organisation committed to promoting the social, economic and positive well-being of families in the community. ParentSkills2Go CIC is an umbrella organisation comprising of different projects, including Little People’s World, a voluntary parent-led group that provides activities and events for families.
The organisation was set up by parents for parents to provide engaging sessions and activities that help stimulate growth and learning opportunities for families, such as trips and holiday events that promote the social, mental and economic wellbeing of families with young children.
We are looking for someone who is dynamic, passionate, knowledgeable, experienced and committed to protecting and promoting the welfare of children. Someone who understands the challenges faced by social enterprises in regard to building a sustainable organisation. Working as part of a team our candidate should be a people person with strong strategic skills, IT competence, alongside an understanding of community wealth building and community empowerment.
Located at Eugenia Road, South East London, ParentSkills2Go runs a wide range of activities and services that are largely free to attend and led by volunteers with some input from paid sessional workers when specific skills are needed. They also offer crèche facilities for parents who are participating in their training programmes.
ParentSkills2Go mission is to empower parents and families by providing training programmes for families and communities that will build and develop their skills in the home, organisation and workplace.
The organisation collaborates and works in partnership with service providers in order to increase engagement and participation in services.
Provide guidance and advice on the specific needs and challenges faced by children from black and racialised communities, and ensure that the charity’s programmes and services are culturally sensitive, inclusive and responsive to those needs
Advise ParentSkills2Go on effective engagement and outreach strategies to reach and connect with children and families from these communities, and support the development of culturally relevant and empowering programmes
Provide input and expertise on the recruitment, training and retention of staff and volunteers from diverse backgrounds, and ensure that ParentSkills2Go workforce reflects the communities it serves Advise on the design and implementation of innovative and effective approaches to youth work and community development, and ensure that the ParentSkills2Go programmes are evidence-based and evidence-informed
Support ParentSkills2Go in building and maintaining strong partnerships with community organisations and stakeholders from diverse backgrounds, and ensure that ParentSkills2Go work is informed by the perspectives and voices of those it serves
Provide guidance on fundraising, grant applications and other income-generation strategies to support the sustainability and growth of ParentSkills2Go programmes and services
Monitor and evaluate ParentSkills2Go performance, impact and effectiveness in delivering services to children from black and racialised communities, and provide feedback and recommendations for improvement and growth
Our Advisory Board is a group of dedicated individuals who provide invaluable guidance, advice, and support to help the organisation achieve its goals. As a member of the Advisory Board, you will play a critical role in shaping the future of the organisation by sharing your expertise and experience and helping to drive our child welfare and safeguarding initiatives.
We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Advisory Board Member to join ParentSkills2Go. The ideal candidate will have a passion for working with children from Black and racialised communities and possess a high level of digital and technological literacy, as well as excellent project management skills.
Working with the management team to provide guidance and advice on strategies to improve the welfare and outcomes of children and families from Black and racialised communities
Attending meetings and providing input and feedback on programme development and implementation
Assisting in identifying potential funding sources and developing fundraising strategies Participating in public speaking and media engagements to raise awareness of ParentSkills2Go and its mission
Working with the management team to oversee programme evaluation and data analysis to ensure programme effectiveness
Utilising digital, technological and productivity tools to enhance and streamline the organisation operations
Develop and maintain relationships with community leaders, donors, and other stakeholders
Bachelor’s degree in a related field such as social work, psychology, or education
Experience working with children from disadvantaged backgrounds and understanding of the challenges facing these communities
Strong digital and technological literacy, including experience with project management software Experience in programme development, implementation and evaluation
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively as part of a team Proven ability to engage with the community and build relationships with stakeholders
This is a part-time, volunteer position with flexible hours. The Advisory Board Member may be required to attend occasional meetings and events outside of regular business hours. However, Advisory Board Members may be eligible for reimbursement for expenses related to their role.
